The Dangers of Alcohol and Narconon Alcohol Treatment

Alcohol addiction is one of the worst possible addictions that a person can encounter. There has been much research done on the subject and yet still there is no definitive answer as to why there are some people who start drinking and cannot stop and yet others who can consume alcohol in moderation. All that is known however is that alcoholism is a very debilitating state for any human being to be in. There are more people who miss work every year due to alcoholism, either their own or that of a family member, than for any other reason or illness. Alcohol related deaths make up one fourth of all fatalities every year in America, and those are not even the ones that are automobile related. There are more people in prison as a result of an alcohol related crime than for anything else. The point of the matter is that when a person becomes inebriated on alcohol their impulse control is greatly diminished and whatever other emotions that the person may be feeling at the time are usually exaggerated. That means that when a person gets drunk their emotions are going to be their guide as opposed to their logic and that can cause the potential for some very dangerous situations.

It is shown that in people who use alcohol habitually and to excess over a long period of time show lower impulse control even when they are not intoxicated. Alcohol definitely affects a person’s brain and causes damage; the time for this damage to be reversed is unknown. With at few particular alcohol related brain disorders, if they progress to a certain level there is no way to reverse the effects.

Narconon Drug Rehab and Alcoholism

Alcoholism is one of the oldest addictions known to man. Alcohol has been around since the dawning of time when our ancestors first figured out that fermented food could cause a person to feel inebriated. The history alcohol in the U.S. is actually pretty interesting.

Alcohol in Early America

When settlers first came to America, the use of alcohol, in the form of cider was pretty common. The cider of that age was mild and actually safer to drink than some of the water sources that were available. People of all ages would drink cider all day long, but usually with meals and not to excess. It was just a beverage with mild relaxing effects that was served at all social activities. There were very few problems with people who suffered from addiction to this drink because there was so much social pressure to use alcoholic drinks temperately. There were very few people that were walking around dead drunk. It one found themselves in that situation they were often publicly humiliated. It was not until the introduction of liquor a few centuries later that problems started to arise in America overall with alcoholism.

The introduction of liquor caused so many problems for so many people that it fueled the movement of temperance which later lead to the prohibition. There is definitely a potential for serious problems caused by alcohol and people should exercise caution with this potentially dangerous drug.

Alcohol Addiction

346773131ArQFdw_ph.jpgThere is no face to addiction. Many people assume that an addict must look a particular way much like the ones seen in television or the movies. But for the most part, addiction has no face. It can grab a hold of anyone; no matter how much money you have, what your background is, or what ethnicity you are. Addiction can grab a hold of those around you like your doctor, a teacher, or even your brother and sister.
Alcoholism is a very difficult addiction to deal with. We’re not talking about a drug that gets purchased in seedy parts of town. This is a drug that available EVERYWHERE; a drug that is socially acceptable because it’s technically legal. It can be purchased at your grocery store, available during dinner at restaurants, and literally everywhere you drive. Not to say that one type of addiction is tougher than the other but credit must be given to those battling alcoholism.

Ethanol is a sedative-hypnotic drug that acts on the same part of the brain as benzodiazepines and barbiturate tranquilizers like Valium, Xanax, and Klonopin. Because these types of drugs are similar and act on the same part of the brain, they are always the most delicate to deal with as withdrawal from these types of drugs can cause seizures and death. They can all substitute for one another and prevent withdrawal symptoms. Benzos are the most typical drug used to treat alcohol withdrawal.
