Methadone Clinics Cause of Drug Addiction

Early one morning in Asheville, NC there was one building bustling with activity.  There were hundreds of cars in the parking lot and people seemed to be wrapped around the building in a long line.   It was like a scene from the great depression, except they were not waiting for soup.

They were waiting for methadone and knew they had to be there because the consequences of methadone withdrawal were too painful to face and they were never offered
drug rehabilitation.

Drug Addiction Growing Among Youth

Mexico is experiencing an all out drug war and it is spilling into the US.

The source of the violence is Mexican drug cartels scrambling to fill the demand for drugs in the United States. These same cartels are even recruiting young American teenagers to gain ease of access to American youth. If this situation is not controlled, then predictably the United States may soon see a rise in violence similar to what is happening in Mexico, where troops are being deployed.

Are They Stoned?

It is not likely that this article was written by someone who has spent any time working in the area of drug treatment.  More often than not, an assessment on a current addict in treatment will reveal that marijuana WAS the gateway drug that led into more serious addictions.  Abuse of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs often follows marijuana use.  Whether the marijuana use prompts curiosity about other highs or whether it reduces ones ability to make decisions, leading to the decision to try a deadly drug is not the point.  The point is – marijuana is not good and its use should not be promoted on any level.
What should be promoted are effective drug education and drug treatment and the message that there are marijuana addicts amongst us. They need help – not the message that it is OK.
